In loving kindness –
My name is Skylar. I am a liberation centered therapist who became a therapist through my own experiences with misaligned therapy. Drawing on my background, my therapy centers the wisdom inherent in all people by collaborating on a container that emphasizes curiosity, compassion, and non-judgment. Our work together will acknowledge the interpersonal and systemic traumas you may navigate and respects the armor you put on to survive while exploring new possibilities for you.

I have been offering somatic-based and trauma informed therapy virtually or in person to Michigan residents for three years. My in-person office is located on the lands of the Anishinabewaki ᐊᓂᔑᓈᐯᐗᑭ, Wyandot, Meškwahki·aša·hina, Bodwéwadmi, and Peoria people otherwise known as Ypsilanti. My therapeutic focus is working with neurodivergent, Trans, Queer, ENM, and/or kinky individuals or relationships regarding topics such as trauma, anxiety, depression, people-pleasing, relationships, and overwhelm. I often work with people who feel as though they are missing something in traditional talk therapy. My practice is not limited to these identities or topics; if you’re curious, you are welcome to request a free consultation to explore therapeutic fit.
In sessions, I aim to embody six principles: organicity, non-violence, unity, mindfulness, presence, and relational alchemy. Organicity is the belief that all beings are naturally working toward healing with whatever information they have in the moment. Non-violence is a way to honor our organicity by not pushing a practice you are not interested in or not ready for. Unity is about how we share experiences as humans and honoring the differences that deserve respect. Mindfulness is a practice of observing the self with non-judgment, compassion, and/or curiosity. Mindfulness originates in Hindu and Buddhist religious practice and has since been appropriated by western therapeutic models. I name mindfulness’ origins to express my respect for ancestral practices and to acknowledge the difference between mindfulness as a therapeutic practice and as a spiritual practice. Presence is the experience of feeling the moment, it can be indescribable yet holds immense value for our growth. Lastly, relational alchemy is recognizing and honoring our therapeutic relationship and how it can facilitate a deeper understanding of your relationships with yourself and others.
To facilitate these principles, we may talk, breathe, move, collaborate on language for the sensations in your body, or create space to be present with your emotions. I encourage an atmosphere of playfulness and I may ask you if you’re interested in trying something other therapists have not before such as pushing, reaching, or intentionally supporting yourself with pillows. I acknowledge that it can be challenging to embrace playfulness after building survival resources that keep you safe by keeping you still.
My therapy is informed by several modalities, primarily Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP), Polyvagal Theory (PVT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Somatic Experiencing (SE). In addition to therapuetic modalities, I incorporate trans-feminist, anti-racist, decolonizing, queer, health at every size, and disability theory into my practice.
As a human, I deeply enjoy appreciating and creating art, nature, being in my local trans community, and dancing.
Thank you for reading my bio. It is my hope that you find a pathway towards healing whether that be with me or not.
